Acer Swift Laptops Get a Boost with New AMD Ryzen AI 300 Series Processors

By Greg Tavarez

Laptop manufacturers are constantly in a race to create machines that are lighter and thinner than ever before, while simultaneously packing in the processing power to handle demanding tasks.

This balance between portability and performance is what keeps consumers on their toes (and, frankly, what drives the industry forward). Every year, new materials, lighter components and more efficient processors emerge, pushing the boundaries of what's possible and redefining what we expect from our mobile computing companions.

Acer recently announced that their popular Swift series of thin-and-light laptops will receive a performance upgrade. Starting in Q3 2024, select Swift models will be equipped with the latest AMD Ryzen AI 300 Series processors. These next-generation processors promise to deliver improved speed and performance for users on the go.

The AMD Ryzen AI 300 Series processors are designed to offer improvements over previous generations. They will pack more CPU and GPU cores for smoother multitasking and better handling of demanding applications. A key feature of the Ryzen AI 300 Series is the inclusion of an ultra-efficient Neural Processing Unit.

As part of AMD Ryzen AI, the new processors leverage new AMD XDNA 2 technology to provide up to 50-plus NPU TOPS of AI processing performance to allow users to deploy AI capabilities locally and run generative AI applications, LLMs and AI assistants directly on upcoming Acer Swift laptops. In turn, users will maximize their creativity and productivity without the need for internet access and without sacrificing battery life.

“We are creating a new category of AI PCs with Acer featuring our third generation AMD Ryzen AI processors with the world's most powerful NPU with 50 TOPS, the world's fastest APU with next-gen Zen 5 architecture, and the world's best graphics for gaming,” said Jack Huynh, Senior Vice President and GM, Computing and Graphics Group at AMD.

In addition to the performance improvements, the new Swift laptops with AMD Ryzen AI 300 Series processors are eligible for a free upgrade to Copilot+ PC experiences when available. Copilot+ is a suite of AI-powered features that are designed to help users be more productive. These features include intelligent assistants that can help with tasks such as scheduling meetings and taking notes.

"AI is continuing to reshape our customers' expectations for PCs across gaming, content creation, professional and everyday use," said Jerry Kao, COO at Acer. "With AMD, we are delivering more AI-enabled experiences to our customers with unprecedented power and performance. In the coming months, we are excited to announce new systems powered by AMD Ryzen AI 300 Series processors."

The announcement of the new Swift laptops with AMD Ryzen AI 300 Series processors is sure to be welcome news for both casual and professional users alike. The combination of performance, portability and AI-powered features makes these laptops a compelling option for anyone who needs a powerful and versatile machine for work or play.
