Upstage Makes Powerful AI More Accessible with Intel Core Ultra Processors

By Greg Tavarez

Let’s talk about Upstage.

Upstage, a company established in October 2020, aims to enhance workplace productivity through its expertise in document processing engines and LLMs. Their flagship product, Solar LLM, boasts performance comparable to GPT-4 while offering advantages in speed and cost-effectiveness.

Solar LLM caters to a wider range of users by being available on-premises and through APIs. This allows integration with existing platforms like Amazon SageMaker JumpStart, a service for building, training and deploying machine learning models. Upstage positions Solar LLM as a versatile and accessible solution compared to larger, more resource-intensive models offered by major technology companies.

In recent news, Upstage announced it will optimize Solar Mini on Intel Core Ultra processors. Solar Mini is a versatile, general-purpose small LLM that can be customized and fine-tuned for various natural language processing tasks in English, Korean and Japanese, such as understanding, summarizing, translating and predicting new content.

"We are thrilled to collaborate with Intel to integrate Solar LLM directly into their high-performance processors, demonstrating how built-in AI capabilities can elevate edge computing experiences to new heights," said Sung Kim, CEO and co-founder of Upstage. "This on-device LLM design will provide faster, more efficient, and intuitive AI capabilities, revolutionizing user interaction, ensuring privacy and significantly enhancing productivity."

Upstage announced it will also integrate Upstage's WriteUp app, a built-in writing assistant powered by Solar Mini to run the advanced generative AI tools offline on Windows PCs based on Intel processors to provide a seamless and connected AI experience anytime and anywhere.

WriteUp, an on-the-go writing assistant app powered by Solar, lets users create content wherever they are, even without an internet connection. This offline tool runs directly on edge devices to ensure complete privacy and security. With customizable options for tone, length, emoji use, purpose and language, WriteUp lets users tailor their writing to their exact needs.

With this move, Upstage continues to help organizations improve efficiency without incurring the high costs or infrastructure demands associated with leading-edge LLMs.
