Zapata AI and D-Wave Join Forces to Fast-Track Generative AI Solutions

By Greg Tavarez

While traditional AI relies on classical computers, quantum machines use the principles of quantum mechanics to solve problems intractable for even the most powerful classical systems. This has the potential to shake up AI training.

Currently, training complex AI models, particularly those used in deep learning, natural language processing and computer vision, requires vast amounts of data and computational power. This leads to high energy consumption. Quantum computers, due to their unique ability to explore multiple states simultaneously, offer the potential to train these models with greater efficiency and accuracy.

It’s not just about training either. The marriage of quantum computing and AI presents exciting possibilities for optimizing business processes. For example, quantum algorithms could be designed to leverage the predictive power of trained AI models, which leads to more efficient resource allocation, reduced costs and improved sustainability across various industries.

Capitalizing on this potential, Zapata AI and D-Wave Quantum announced an expansion to their joint commercial partnership.

Zapata AI specializes in Industrial Generative AI, a type of AI designed for complex business problems. They offer software applications and a platform, called Orquestra, that combine different AI models with custom software to create industrial-scale solutions. This allows companies and governments to gain efficiency, solve operational challenges, and gain valuable insights.

D-Wave designs, builds and sells annealing and gate-model quantum computers. D-Wave focuses on practical applications of quantum computing for various industries, including logistics, AI, materials science and finance. Their list of clients includes major corporations and research institutions.

The collaboration between the two aims to accelerate the development and delivery of integrated quantum and generative AI solutions within D-Wave's Leap cloud platform.

“Our strategic relationship with Zapata AI brings us another step closer to delivering to our customers the transformative combined power of Universal Generative AI and quantum computing in a single cloud platform,” said Dr. Alan Baratz, CEO of D-Wave.

The new agreement uses Zapata’s proprietary Universal Generative AI software for rapid development and builds upon D-Wave’s Leap real-time quantum cloud service to support quantum, hybrid quantum and classical AI solutions. The joint development work will focus on improved and more energy efficient model training, more performant models and the synergistic use of generative AI and quantum optimization.

“We are pleased to expand our go-to-market and technology partnership with a visionary leader in quantum computing,” said Christopher Savoie, CEO and co-founder of Zapata AI. “This agreement also enables Zapata to provide the precious compute capacity which enterprises are so desperate for as they deepen their investment in generative AI applications to solve complex business problems.”

Additionally, Zapata AI is offering a one-year professional license to their Orquestra platform as part of the expanded partnership. They will also provide additional support for companies to identify potential uses for this technology, design prototypes and test them in real-world situations.

Be part of the discussion about the latest trends and developments in the Generative AI space at Generative AI Expo, taking place February 11-13, 2025, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Generative AI Expo discusses the evolution of GenAI and feature conversations focused on the potential for GenAI across industries and how the technology is already being used to create new opportunities for businesses to improve operations, enhance customer experiences, and create new growth opportunities.
