Boomi AI Studio Launched to Centralize Control and Governance of Enterprise AI Agents

By Erik Linask

AI agents, also referred to as intelligent agents or autonomous agents, are software programs that leverage AI to automate many common or repetitive tasks.  Unlike traditional software and other forms or automation, however, AI agents can perceive their environments, make decisions, and take actions to achieve specific goals without explicit human direction.  They can learn from experience, adapt to changing circumstances, and interact with other agents or humans.  In other words, they take automation a step closer to being able to replicate some of the time-consuming work that has traditionally required human intervention, a significant evolution in automation that moves beyond mere rule-based systems to more dynamic and intelligent forms of process execution.

The growing importance of AI agents is underscored by their potential to transform business operations across various industries and is poised for significant growth in enterprise software applications.  AI agents can automate complex workflows, personalize customer experiences, enhance data analysis, and improve decision-making processes.  They can handle tasks ranging from customer service inquiries and data entry to complex data analysis and even strategic planning support.  This potential for increased efficiency, improved productivity, and enhanced innovation is driving rapid adoption of agentic AI across the enterprise landscape.

However, AI agents also introduces new challenges.  Without proper management, organizations risk creating fragmented AI ecosystems, actually leading to operational inefficiencies, security vulnerabilities, and compliance risks.  Effective governance and orchestration are crucial to ensure that AI agents operate securely, ethically, and in alignment with business objectives.

“The rise of agentic AI presents significant opportunities for automation and efficiency, but organizations require a structured approach to ensure these agents operate securely, ethically, and efficiently,” said Shawn Rogers, CEO of BARC US.  “To truly harness the power of AI-driven automation, enterprises need a comprehensive solution that provides the necessary oversight and guardrails to scale with confidence.”

This is the problem that Boomi is trying to solve with its Boomi AI Studio – which it says is a comprehensive AI management solution designed to empower organizations to securely design, govern, and orchestrate AI agents at scale. It’s a timely announcement, with businesses increasingly adopting AI agents to drive automation and enhance decision-making but facing challenges in managing these rapidly proliferating systems.

“With Boomi AI Studio, we’re giving organizations a powerful yet accessible way to build, monitor, and orchestrate AI agents with trust, security, and governance at the core,” said Ed Macosky, Chief Product and Technology Officer at Boomi.  He added that Boomi AI Studio gives enterprises a way “to leverage AI responsibly while accelerating innovation and achieving transformative outcomes.”

Boomi AI Studio provides a centralized platform for managing the entire lifecycle of AI agents, offering key capabilities including:

  • Agent Designer: A no-code environment for creating and deploying AI agents, grounded in trusted enterprise data and incorporating built-in security measures. This simplifies the development process and ensures agents are aligned with organizational data governance policies.
  • Agent Control Tower: A central monitoring and control hub providing comprehensive visibility and governance over both Boomi AI agents and third-party agents (initially supporting Amazon Bedrock and with plans for expansion). This feature allows organizations to proactively manage security and compliance risks across their entire AI agent ecosystem.
  • Agent Garden: A user-friendly interface for interacting with AI agents using natural language, facilitating collaboration and streamlining the execution of AI-driven tasks. This enhances user accessibility and promotes broader adoption of AI agents within the organization.
  • Agent Marketplace: A centralized marketplace within the Boomi platform (formerly Boomi Discover) for accessing pre-built and customizable AI agents from Boomi and its partners. This provides organizations with a curated library of proven AI agents, accelerating deployment and time-to-value.

Boomi AI Studio is currently in early access, with general availability planned for Q2 2025.  By providing a comprehensive and secure platform for managing AI agents, Boomi is hopes to enable organizations to confidently embrace the transformative potential of AI while mitigating the risks associated with uncontrolled agent proliferation.

Amit Sinha, President & Co-Founder of WorkSpan, an early access customer, highlighted the practical benefits: “With Boomi’s solution, we can confidently deploy and oversee AI agents throughout our ecosystem, ensuring compliance and fueling innovation while maintaining operational excellence.”
