DS Automobiles went into full production with a voice assistant that integrates the latest generative AI technology via SoundHound AI’s SoundHound Chat AI. That took place earlier this year.
For those of you not familiar, SoundHound, a provider of conversational intelligence solutions, offers voice AI solutions that let businesses offer better conversational experiences to their customers.
SoundHound’s voice AI delivers reliable speeds and accuracy in numerous languages to product creators across automotive, TV and connected devices, and to customer service industries via AI-driven products like Smart Answering, Smart Ordering and Dynamic Drive Thru, an AI-powered multimodal food ordering solution.
Along with SoundHound Chat AI, a voice assistant with integrated generative AI, SoundHound powers millions of products and services, and processes billions of interactions each year for world class businesses.
Now, the voice assistant will be available in Alfa Romeo Junior Ibrida and in Citroën C4, C4X, C5X, Berlingo and Spacetourer vehicles across multiple European markets.
"We’re delighted to extend our popular SoundHound Chat AI assistant to Alfa Romeo and Citroën vehicles,” said Michael Zagorsek, Chief Operating Officer of SoundHound AI. “This innovation is proving to be a hit with drivers, who are getting ongoing value from their enhanced in-car voice assistant.”
Let’s take a look at what this means for drivers.
Expanding upon in-vehicle voice assistant capabilities – like navigation, calls and real-time information like sports scores and weather – Citroën and Alfa Romeo customers will also have access to ChatGPT-style responses. The system recognizes natural human speech and uses generative AI to support enjoyable, informative conversations that flow.
Users can ask follow-up questions that draw on complementary real-time domains for optimal responses that are relevant and useful while they’re on the road, e.g.:
- “What’s the most popular place to stop along the way?”
- "What is the weather like there now?"
- “Could you navigate me to public parking there?”
“Drivers are still uncovering new and exciting uses for this highly capable, AI-driven voice technology,” Zagorsek. “As we enter a new era for the vehicle cockpit, SoundHound is constantly pushing to deliver elite products that automakers trust and drivers love.”
This partnership demonstrates a growing trend toward in-car voice assistants that are not only capable of performing basic tasks but also engaging in complex, conversational interactions with drivers.
As more automakers adopt similar technology, we can expect vehicles to become increasingly intelligent, personalized and safe. What SoundHound is doing here will transform the driving experience into a blend of mobility and AI.
