CloudBees' Acquisition of Launchable Drives Innovation in AI-Powered DevSecOps

By Greg Tavarez

Testing is critical, as we know. And yet, it's one of the costliest bottlenecks in the software development workflow. In fact, developers spend up to 25% of their time each day on testing. This amount of time spent detracts them from development time and slows critical speed of delivery.

Developers believe AI can provide a powerful solution in improving the testing of code. According to Stack Overflow's 2024 Developer Survey, nearly half of developers have expressed interest in using AI to enhance their testing processes. That stat proves that there is enthusiasm around the potential of AI.

Adding to that, the survey found that 81% of professional developers anticipate AI-powered testing to become a key part of their daily workflow within the next year. This optimistic outlook reflects the growing recognition of AI's ability to automate mundane testing tasks, improve test coverage and even identify potential defects that might escape human detection.

As AI technologies continue to mature, developers can expect to see a surge in innovative tools and platforms designed to streamline testing processes and boost overall software quality.

So, in a move to ensure it offers the broadest GenAI optimization of any DevSecOps platform, CloudBees announced it acquired Launchable.

CloudBees is a platform that helps businesses build and deliver software efficiently and securely. It supports organizations in their cloud transformation journey by offering tools and services that improve developer productivity, ensure compliance and enhance overall software quality. Whether businesses are using on-premise or cloud-based systems, CloudBees provides solutions to streamline the software development process.

Launchable's AI-powered solution, integrated into the CloudBees platform, accelerates software development by optimizing testing processes. Developers benefit from reduced testing time through intelligent test selection. This allows them to focus on critical code changes and rapidly identify issues.

“At Launchable, we focused on delivering innovative solutions to the pervasive challenges of software development. Namely, AI to QA,” said Launchable co-founder Kohsuke Kawaguchi. “CloudBees is a time-tested and trusted DevSecOps platform that rocks the world, so this is a perfect combination.”

Other standout features are automating test triage and analysis. Launchable helps teams efficiently manage and resolve test failures to free up valuable developer time and improves overall productivity. Additionally, Launchable provides enhanced visibility into test suite performance and health. The data-driven approach allows teams to prioritize critical issues.

“Bringing CloudBees and Launchable together represents two milestones for the field of software development,” said Anuj Kapur, President and CEO of CloudBees. “First it brings the first AI-augmented Test Intelligence capability to any DevSecOps platform. Second, it marks the return of a true open-source visionary to CloudBees to continue the mission-oriented efforts around software-based digital transformation in enterprises.”

Looking ahead, the combination of CloudBees and Launchable has the potential to redefine DevSecOps practices. We can expect to see more intelligent and automated testing solutions, deeper integration of AI into the software development lifecycle and a continued focus on developer experience.
